There are many ways in which secondary school students can find themselves struggling due to disorganisation. Today’s blog post will take a look at how students can stay organised and simplify their school life.
Why it's important to stay organised
Organisation is such a key part of not only school, but wider life. In fact, being disorganised on a daily basis leads to mounting problems over time. If your notes are disorganised, this will affect you when it comes to revision time. If you don’t complete homework because you have a messy planner then you’ll lose valuable time during lunch or after school sitting in a detention. Being organised will help you stay on top of work, save time and also become a better student.
Tips to stay organised
Get into a routine
Routines are used by some of the most successful people in the world to avoid wasting time and to start a day perfectly. A great example of a routine that would help in school is to pack your bag the night before. If you do that, you’ll never worry about forgetting your P.E. kit or your homework! It will have all been sorted before you wake up.
Prioritise
Being able to effectively prioritise your work is a fantastic way of staying organised. There are many ways to prioritise, such as by time (do the most urgent homework first), length of task (the big tasks are much easier done when you start them early), or by importance (work that makes up part of your grade should be top of your list). Our tutors at Students First will always be able to help provide some insight into how students should prioritise their work – this is something all successful university students have to know how to do.
Make a to-do list
To do lists might seem like an outdated form of organising given the host of technology at our disposal (apps like Notion and Google Calendar have grown massively in popularity) but I guarantee nothing beats a simple to do list. This will help you remember all important tasks and manage your time well.
Set reminders
If you’re a forgetful student (I certainly was) then setting reminders on your phone will prevent you missing any deadlines for your work. We use our phones much more than we do our planners and so this may be a great way to keep on top of homework.
In all, we hope these tips will help keep even the most disorganised of students on top of their work, and therefore on top of their school life. If you’d like to speak to an expert on this, feel free to drop us a message!
